Dexcom Upgrade, Or Oh How I Love D Techie Toys

January 18th, 2010 admin

To me, it is equal parts hilarious, disturbing and normal that I can and do get excited about new diabetes tools. I waited on pins and needles for Dexcom to show up a year ago. And now I’m nearly beside myself that Dexcom Plus has shown up!

Latest Doctor’s Visit: All the Dirty Laundry
Since I changed my endocrinilogist last year, I’ve really been happy with my experiences with Dr. K. She’s the kind of doctor that means business but doesn’t come off as if she’s judging you. She tells you what she thinks, but leaves it up to you what to do. So usually, I’m fairly excited (yes, I said excited) about...
Give Your Kidneys Some Love
March is National Kidney Month (yes, they have a month for that organ! and even a World Kidney Day on March 11).  I realize the month is nearly over this year, but it’s never too late to show your kidneys some love — especially if you have diabetes, which possibly puts them at risk. I must admit,  Read More →
On the Fence With CGMS
I used the blue and white checkered fabric that was left over from No. 3’s Dorothy Halloween costume. I had just needed a small pouch that I could hang from the hook where I hang my towel next to the shower. I needed a place to put my Dexcom 7 Plus receiver while I was in the shower since the leather case that came with it didn’t stay...
Diabetic in Training
Despite my initial rant, Charlie’s week of hockey camp was great. He had a blast. Once we settled into the routine and got the lay of the land, everything went more smoothly. After a week of tagging along with the hockey counselors all over the Princeton campus and dealing with some very badly behaved 7 and 8 year olds, I’m happy to get back...
The Final Inning
Today was my last dermatology appointment for the Accutane. I’m a mixture of excited and sad. I’m excited because the Accutane has been such a hassle. Monthly doctor’s appointments and blood draws, debilitating side effects, and just the stress of putting this into my system. So now it’s over. Awesome.  Read More →

Endo: A Love/Hate Relationship
My dad and I have our endo appointments on Wednesday. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be going right now. I already tried to move it back a week, but the doctors were both booked. I’m just not in the right place to see her.  Read More →
A Day in My Life
Sunday, 10:30 p.m.: I’d just finished eating some cottage cheese and fresh pineapple thinking I was too low to go to bed. I had been 116 mg/dL after dinner and was around 110 mg/dL at bedtime. I had taken off Dexcom Saturday morning because the edges of the tape were getting frayed and the internal sensor was actually poking me funny. I decided...
